Butterflies: Alaska - June 1 through 23, 2003
I'm still a novice at identifying butterflies and
their plant relationships. So, if you disagree with the name I've
put to the following butterflies photos, please
send me a note to explain. I'd like to learn something new.
Please do not copy any image without first asking

In 2003, I co-led a birding, wildflowers and (other)
wildlife trip to Alaska for the Sierra Club Outings program for
the second time. The primary leaders of this trip, Carol and Howard
Dienger, have been leading this trip for six years and, along
with co-leader Kay Partelow, they have honed it to an exceedingly
wonderful Alaskan experience. This time, I paid attention to butterflies.
I managed to photograph a handful of them.

There is a pale lavender tint in the light
areas of the hind underwing that didn't seem to make it through
the image prep. |

There were some moths, too...

no idea what it is)

The black and white moth,
left, was about the size of blue (butterfly). We saw them
in a lot of places. It didn't seem like a skipper.
The moth with the four wing spots, below, was a bit larger,
about the size of a Woodland Skipper (butterfly). |
