Bird Photos: Rarities: Glossy Ibis

This bird was found by Mike Rogers on 5/14/01 in Alviso, CA, mingling with a group of White-faced Ibis. This is the second California record of this species; the first for Northern California. I took these photos on 5/15/01.

Note the grayish-tan legs with red ankles, or tibiotarsal joints. This feature set this bird apart from the White-faced Ibis when its face could not be seen.

The blue, bare facial skin is noticeable. Compare the legs with the White-faced Ibis, right.
